Our NSF MRSEC iSuperSEED 'Biologically-Produced Nanomaterials' is funded. Our group will work with the groups of Seong Kim (ChE and MatSE), Venkat Gopalan (MatSE), Dan Cosgrove (Bio), Ying Gu (BMB), Jeff Catchmark (Bio. Eng.), Zoubeida Ounaies (Mech./Nuc. Eng.), and Lasse Jensen (Chem.) on cellulosics.

Stephen Koehler received a Continuing TA Award for demographic-derived Chemistry Connections to concepts in Chem 202 lecture, giving preference to recent publications and/or Penn State research. The award will give him the freedom to implement these as part of his current TA assignment.

Jacob Piane was awarded the Harry and Catharine Dalalian Graduate Fellowship in Organic Chemistry for proposing concept reviews for our Chem 213 labs. The TA award will give him the freedom to implement these as part of his TA assignment this academic year.

Dr. Shalisa Oburn is one of three awardees of an Eberly College of Science Postdoctoral Fellowship. Shalisa will continue her work on carbon nano thread synthesis with this fellowship

Jinzhen Hu was selected as for an Undergraduate Research Fellowship within ChE for the summer of 2019. He will be working with Prof. Seong Kim on our collaborative efforts with cellulose-based materials.

The Center for Nanothread Chemistry, an NSF Center for Chemical Innovation, has been funded. The CCI Phase I efforts will bring together the Badding, Elacqua, and Crespi groups at PSU, along with the Trauner group (NYU), the Hoffman group (Cornell), and the Rohr-Schmidt group (Brandeis)
